The challenge raised by science, that usually comes not only against the moral rules, but frequently against the social and juridical boundaries, had to be answered to.
The answer was the emerge of Bioethics. Today, no one can deny the creative side of Bioethics. Yet, as all creations, Bioethics need a way to promote its concepts. Our answer to this need is „Romanian Journal of Bioethics „.
Why „The Bioethics Journal”?
To define bioethics is hard and dangerous. It is a new science, located at the crossroads of the technical sciences (especially medicine and biology) and humanist sciences (philosophy, theology, law, sociology, morality, psychology etc). This is why Bioethics has a controversial identity and an varied presence. Bioethics need a reflection frame capable to describe its nature and content, principles and values involved, as well as the inherent conflicts; a frame that will allow to express free and non-prejudiced different points of view.
Why „The Romanian Journal of Bioethics”?
The approach of bioethics is strongly influenced by the cultural specific of each community, by their customary laws, by the group psychology, behavior and morale commonly accepted. Bioethics, together with the universal principles, has a local specificity. Therefore the debates and the solutions must consider this specific features in order to be realistic and applicable. The concepts must not be translated word by word, but enriched with the national features. In conclusion, it is necessary to have Romanian Bioethics.
We hope that The Romanian Journal of Bioethics will strengthen the considerable efforts that were already done across our country. We hope that it will provoke discussions and attitudes, as its readers will be the most competent judges of our work.
